First Fridays: Randy Peterson – Family Musician

June 7 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us on the first Fridays of June, July and August for a fun, free, family-friendly outdoor event. This month we welcome family musician, Randy Peterson.

Randy Peterson’s high energy concerts have been enjoyed by children and families at countless schools, libraries, festivals and concert stages for years.  His shows are a fast-moving mix of music, humor and storytelling that are geared for kids, but which all ages enjoy. How did his career begin?

Growing up as a farm kid in Wisconsin, Randy Peterson dreamed of being a musician. Through the years he played many styles of music in all kinds of places. Rock. Country. Even polkas! None of it felt quite right.  Randy pretty much gave up on the idea of music as a career and worked for several years as a commercial artist. (He has a degree in art).

One fateful day Randy received a phone call from the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary in Green Bay.  They asked if he could play his guitar for the kids who would be at an upcoming special event.  He said yes…then began to panic. He didn’t know ANY children’s songs!  With some quick research and a lot of practice, Randy put together his first concert for kids. It lasted only twenty minutes, but that show with its’ sing-alongs and audience participation gave Randy a new direction in his life. One that never felt more right.

Now thirty years later, Randy is enjoying an amazing career. Widely known for his interactive, sing-along shows, Randy has received much acclaim for the songs he has written.  His song ‘I’m Gonna Read A Book Today’ is being sung in schools worldwide and was recently chosen as the reading theme song by the Library System of Singapore.

His latest CD was an honored recipient of the iParenting Media Award. This national level award is given to children’s products deemed ‘the best in the industry’ by iParenting Media, a division of the Walt Disney Company.  Also on the national scene, Randy has twice been awarded the prestigious Parents Choice Award.

In addition to his performing career, Randy often visits schools as an Artist in Residence, teaching songwriting to students and passing along his joy of performing.

Following the presentation, Crossroads will be hosting a small campfire at our council ring where people can socialize, tell stories, and make s’mores to enjoy!
