DESCRIPTION:Would you like to spend less time removing fallen leaves from your yard? Coggin Herringa will discuss how to manage the leaves so they can decompose naturally without becoming a nuisance. This event is free and open to the public. Coggin is the co-chairman of the Door County Master Gardeners Association Education Committee and President of the Door Peninsula Chapter of the Wild Ones. \nAs we prepare for the change of seasons\, we begin nesting in our homes for the approaching colder months. Discover how leaving leaves in the landscape can protect shelter for overwintering pollinators and wildlife while enriching the soil and supporting a healthier ecosystem – all while reducing fall yard work. Fallen leaves are valuable; they provide a winter habitat for bumble bees\, countless pollinators\, beneficial insects and small creatures. Insects which have overwintered in the leaves become an important food source in the spring for birds as they feed their young. The decomposing leaves feed the soil\, building organic matter and improving soil structure and moisture retention. \n\nFree and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Junior Nature Club is a free\, six-week outdoor adventure designed for preschool-aged children and their families to discover\, explore\, and connect with the natural world. Through stories\, games\, hands-on activities\, and plenty of time to play and learn outdoors\, children and caregivers will build curiosity\, confidence\, social connections\, and a deeper appreciation for nature together. \n\nClasses are your choice of Tuesday or Wednesday from mid-September through mid-October. This is a family program\, so parents or guardians are required to stay and participate throughout each session. Siblings and other family members are warmly welcome to join the fun. \nWe meet rain\, snow\, or shine\, so come dressed for outdoor exploration and the changing weather.
