LEARNING IN THE FIELD

Located in the heart of the Door Peninsula, Crossroads nature preserves offer diverse habitats, miles of trails, and a commitment to understanding the importance of these habitats to the greater ecosystems surrounding them. Whether your group is interested in an exploratory hike or a detailed exploration of life inside a water drop, Crossroads can be your hub of hands-on exploration.

We’ve been working to restore Crossroads' land for over 30 years. Along the way, our preserves became a place of restoration for people, too. Our programming is no different. We emphasize opportunities for students of all ages to experience restoration and the power they possess to make changes for good while learning healthy ways to engage with others and the land around them.

Using inquiry-based education, Crossroads encourages students to ask questions, develop hypotheses and then collect the data themselves. Using the same tools and methods field scientists use, students learn the value of the scientific process and how it helps frame our understanding of the world around us.

Students are the future of our local communities. Our place-based programs connect students with the issues relevant to our towns, communities, and the Great Lakes Region. We promote critical thought, respectful discussion, and goal-oriented thinking. Through first-hand experiences and scientific inquiry, students learn thought processes they can use to benefit their lives and the places they call home.

Crossroads offers age-specific programs for pre-school- through high school-aged learners. Our programs align with Wisconsin Standards for Science (WSS) and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) ensuring your students continue learning relevant classroom concepts while also promoting natural curiosity, team building, and problem-solving skills.
