DCMGA: Growing Together Education Series – Winter Sowing Demonstration
January 12 @ 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Veteran gardener Karen Kidd will explain how you can sow seeds outdoors in milk jugs and place them outside for the winter. This hands-off approach allows the seeds to determine when the time is right to sprout.
Even though it is too early to sow seeds inside, you can sow seeds outdoors with the winter sowing method utilizing milk jugs to create mini-greenhouses. Winter sowing is particularly useful for starting native plants which require cold stratification. Resulting in stronger, hardened-off seedlings, winter sowing is a cost-effective way to garden. This technique requires no indoor grow lights and saves space, as the container acts as a miniature environment that expose seeds to necessary cold stratification and natural conditions, allowing seeds to germinate when the conditions are right.
Free and open to the public. Brought to you by the Door County Master Gardeners Association.
