DCMGA: Growing Together Education Series – Rain Gardens 101
The Door County Master Gardeners Association February Growing Together Education Series will present “Rain Gardens 101” on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay. The video webinar is free and open to the public.
Protecting water quality can start in your own yard! Rain gardens can help filter out pollutants in runoff and provide food and shelter for butterflies, songbirds and other wildlife. And they are beautiful as well! In this program Master Gardener Karen Newbern will discuss what rain gardens are, how they function, and how to establish them in residential situations. Plant lists and other resources will be available.
Karen Newbern developed a love of plants at a young age, while gardening and studying wildflowers with her mom. She has worked as a naturalist for over 30 years, teaching all ages about natural connections. Karen is now the Nursery Manager at Door Landscape and Nursery in Carlsville, helping people create beautiful and sustainable landscapes with both native and non-native plants.
The Growing Together series of educational programs are free and open to the public and will provide information on relevant gardening topics for all levels of gardeners, from beginners to experienced. The selected programs will present research-based gardening techniques that are in alignment with the education requirements of the Wisconsin Extension Master Gardener program.
