Nature Treks with Terrie – A Journey Through Time
Deep Dive into Environmental Topics with Terrie Cooper
We’ll take a trip back through time and discover the unique plants, animals, and human inhabitants who once called this place home. Imagine a time when mammoth, Woodland elk, mountain lions, and Wolverine roamed this property. Learn how Door County has changed as a result of humans and the efforts Crossroads and other conservation groups throughout the county are taking to restore our native landscapes. Geared for ages 16+.
Megafauna were present in postglacial Door County, Wisconsin, but their presence was limited to the very early postglacial period, roughly 13,000 to 10,000 years ago, when the glaciers began retreating from the Great Lakes region. While the high hill at Ida might possibly have had them, the Big Creek Preserve Property would have been under water during that era.
This hike will be led by Coggin Heeringa, interpretive naturalist.
Meet at the Collins Learning Center. Open to the public and free thanks to our donors.
