Livestream: “Sinkhole Odyssey | Hidden Below”

September 16 @ 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Join freshwater filmmakers and explorers Zach Melnick and Yvonne Drebert, creators of All Too Clear, for a remarkable live exploration of one of the Great Lakes’ most extraordinary hidden environments.

Beginning at 10:00 a.m. CST, Melnick and Drebert will partner with Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Great Lakes Now for the first-ever live broadcast from Middle Island Sinkhole, an underwater time capsule located 80 feet beneath the surface of Lake Huron.

Using a high-tech remotely operated vehicle (ROV), the team will descend into the sinkhole alongside advanced divers as they collect samples from the unique microbial mats thriving on the lakebed. The livestream will offer a rare, real-time look at this fascinating ecosystem and the scientific research taking place below the surface.

During Sinkhole Odyssey | Hidden Below, visitors will journey into an underwater world that closely resembles conditions on Earth more than 2.5 billion years ago. While the natural world above prepares for winter, participants will discover the remarkable life forms and ecosystems hidden deep beneath Lake Huron, gaining insight into a landscape that may hold clues to the origins of life on our planet.

You won’t miss this unique opportunity to explore one of the Great Lakes’ most remarkable underwater environments and experience a world unlike any other.
